It is before the effects send. I use my studio pre coming out of the effects send into a BBE 822A and then into the stereo input of my simul-stereo 295. When I use the regular outputs or the recording outputs on the SP, I find the sound is compressed compared to the sound I get when I use the effects send as the output.
