Hi!

I just bought used simul class 2:90 and got it today.
Dont have triaxis yet (get it next week) but I did try does it work.

When I plugged with only guitar it was not loud. It was really silent. You could easily talk even when volume was full. Same on both channels. Is it always like this? We also had hugnes and kettner amp at our rehealsal place and tried with taking signal from its effect loop to simul class 2:90. It was had little more volume but still nothing like normal amp..

I opened simul class and here are few weird things, what is that "plastic like" black **** all over the amp?
And there is one weird piece inside the amp, is that someones own made bias switch or something? (only my guess)
seller did not mention anything about these...

Any idea what could be wrong?
Should I sent it to repair or cancel the deal?

There is also picture of the case, I think postman has been throwing the case a lot... (or it was broken when he send it to me..)

The capacitors are dead. Send it for repair.
You definitely need to change them.
I used to play with low caps and the volume was at least 50% down.
I changed them recently and the 290 is now as loud as it was meant to be.

Ouch.....somebody really messed with the bias circuitry..... :? :?
Wrong caps in there.... :? :?

Also wrong caps in the Switchtrack/mode switching circuitry. :? :?

The black stuff is molten plastic/hot plastic glue

This is how it "should" look like after a cap job:

Did the seller mention that this 2:90 was tinkered with??

Where are you from? Looks like a 220/240V 2:90, also TAD ("Tube Amp Doctor" from Germany) caps in there

No. Seller did not mention anything about any modifications. Im from Finland and I bought this amp from Germany.

I'm gonna take it to local really professional amp doctor to see what he things about it. If not happy then Im gonna demand full refund.

This is not a clean job for sure, which doesn't mean it's not functionnal. Looks like someone replaced all the power caps without removing the board.
There seems to be a bias mod. Is the second small cap unsoldered ?
The black thing is hot glue, often used for maintaining caps together and avoiding one to become loose.
Check tubes (replace the preamp first) ans see if it solve the problem.

I already dropped amp to really professional amp guy here in my hometown.
Lassi Ukkonen. Guy been has been doing modification and repairing to amps last 30 years. (builder of that new simble pedal)a
Im sure he find out what is wrong and also check how those mods are made..
