Is it worth the money? Can I pull out that Dual Rectifier high gain sound for recording direct in my apartment or in other words, is Mesa Dual Rect head more about pre or power amp distortion?

thanks

The Recto Recording Pre has onboard simulated power amp and cabinet distortion. It sounds pretty good direct, but I find that it's kind of lacking in the palm mute department. Maybe a console with a decent EQ will fix that, but I've never tried so I can't say for sure.

Here's what she can do with a Recto 2:100 power amp and a 4x12.

Is this thing only intended for recording or can you plug it up to a power amp and some cabs and use that setup instead of getting a dual recto for example?

Look at the post above yours. Here's a pic of my "LIVE" rig.

Yeh cool just making sure.

But basically you guys are saying yes it is worth the extra money? Or is this more of a nitpicking issue between the Dual Recto and the Rec Preamp and is more of an issue of personal taste.
Sorry for sorta taking over Mrakk

Samhill and Screamingdaisy, nice gear you have! If you have any samples of Recto Pre direct out, preferably high gain rhythm please post it here!

thanks

All I have at this time is this, which is a high gain lead tone, I used it with the recto 2:100 and a 4x12 cab, miked with a SM57 and Rode NT2000....I'll work on a direct recording asap.

Interesting the "boutique" boyz haven't really hit upon this rackmount preamp concept. They're fantastic devices, live or recording. Rather passe to long term Boogie folks, not too many amp manufactures offer something similar. VHT, ENGL, Soldano to name most.

You don't see Matchless, Two Rock, Fuchs, Fargen, Roccoforte, THD.... doing much along these lines. I'd really like to see Andy Fuchs make a serious one for about a grand.

So how versatile is the Recto pre amp? Is it just versatile enough for recording? So a 2:100 and the Recto preamp is basically a Mesa Dual Rectifier Head? But what's so specially about buying two seperately? For the advatange of stereo sound with effects etc and recording ability? Also, how would the Recto Pre amp go with a Mesa 20/20? Thanks

Kind of late, but here's a rhythm clip I just made. I got the Recto pre yesterday, and I'm loving it so far. Recto pre recording outs direct into a Motu 828mkII.

Production isn't the best, but it'll give you an idea. Pardon the sloppy playing, both guitars were first takes, I didn't really feel like redoing them. I just wanted to see how the Recto pre sounded recorded.

That sounds great, especially considering you used the direct outs...Tell us more...what were the settings, guitar, pickups?

Thanks! :D

Playing an Ibanez SZ 520 with stock Duncan-design pickups directly into the Recto pre. I had it set to Channel 2 modern, gain at about 1 o'clock, treble at 4 o'clock, mids at 3 o'clock, bass at noon, presence at 8:30. Post EQ'ing on one track was a scooped setting with boosted highs for more presence and the other track was EQ'ed with more of a mid-boost (EQ'ed with a Dano Fish n' Chips EQ pedal). Add some delay and reverb to "gel" it all together, and that's about it, as far as I remember.

Real cool, Shintock! Could you please re-do the clip with a little less bass and a bit more gain?

thanks

Sam-

What rack are you using? also where did you get the dolly? and finally - can you actually lift that thing on stage?

I just put together a 6 space rack that I can barely lift. Power amp weighs over 50lbs :(

Yeah, I suppose I could look at that tonight or tomorrow. I checked out Petrucci's old Recto settings, mine weren't that far off! :D Just needed more gain, a bit less treble and bass.

I see if I can get another clip up tomorrow.
