The Mark IV Combo weighs about 70 -85 lb's it seems, and the Mark V is listed at 65lb, the 5:50 Express Plus weighs 54lb. These seem like really similar amps in size so:

1. What makes the Mark IV so heavy?
2. What changed and why are the Mark V and 5:50 Plus lighter?

thnx

What speaker is in it? If the Mark IV has an EVM-12L that's 10 lbs difference against the C-90 the Mark V ships with alone.

As mentioned; EVM12L adds about 8 lbs. My fully loaded Mark III combo weighed around 90lbs.

IMO, some of it is modern improvements to manufacturing methods. In the past you would ruggedize something buy overbuilding it... now you can ruggedize something by over-engineering it.

Mesa uses a higher grade of steel in their modern transformers. It allows them to small/lighter transformers.

The Express may use a lighter grade of plywood.
