I recently got hold of a new polished tread plate and chrome knobs for my dual recrifier. The plan is to black out my amp including the knobs. Has anyone painted chrome knobs before and how did you do it?

Anyway there happens to be a powder coating business down the road from me. I'll post pics when it's done.

That's the way to go. I don't think paint would last, even if the knobs were media blasted before it was applied.

Possibly an even better option, depending on the cost of powder coating the originals.

For me it was about seeing the knobs where they were pointing. A dot at 1mm diameter (gold in colour on chrome backround) from 3m away is almost impossible to see, let alone when it's dark. Talk about "what were they thinking?"

I suppose a white or gold dot on black knobs would be better to see but I don't think it'll be a huge improvement at distance.

Also, it was more important to me to keep the original knobs just that, original.

But for the OP, it's probably a case of visual aesthetics more than anything.

I thought this was a better option too.
