nomad 55 clean channel. not really clean?

I Like the way the clean channel is sometimes but other times I just can't seem to dial in a proper clean. Anyone else have this problem or is it just mine/me?
 
I find that the cleanest tones for channel 1 on my Nomad (a 45 1x12 combo) are when the gain is set below noon, and the channel volume is use to give some volume. Once I start putting the channel gain above noon, it start making a difference in the channel's clarity.

Not sure if this helps you or not ...
 
Yeah it is how I usually have it but I was happier with the clean before getting a silverface twin reverb. I might just be expecting too much and should just enjoy what it does. I used to have a nomad 45 2x12 and just remember the clean being cleaner.
