Hi all,

First of all, hello everyone, Im new here.
Im a Mesa fan since like half a year.

So, I have this Studio Preamp.
And Im considering the Mark IIC+ mod.

Is it really all that?

And, does someone have like a definite schematic of how it should be?

I hope someone has some real experience with this.

Thanx!

For what it's worth, we are reading your thread.

I simply have no experience with the Studio Preamp.

Sorry.

Haha, thats ok man, thank you :)

It's just that I saw a YouTube clip (or actually two), where modified Studio Preamps sounded absolutely killer.
And ofcourse I searched this forum thoroughly before I started a new topic.
But I did not find like a definite schematic or something.

Ps tube recommendations are welcome too!
My current tone is lacking some "tube filth", a bit of mid-roar.

The Studio Pre is already pretty close to the IIC+. General advice:

The IIC+ is as much defined by the power amp as the preamp.
Louder is better.
The SP is pretty adjustable. I was able to get all kinds of stuff out of it.
For more roar, try chinese tubes. They are gainy and squealy, but you can roll off the highs and get mids.
The SP record outs are... meh. You really need a power amp + cab or a good cab sim.
Add 750 for more presence, 2200 for more bite/filth.
Use a boost. The gain stage in the SP has ridiculous overdrive, so it is too smooth. Turn down the drive and push the front-end with an OD808, TS9, or equivalent.

Hi there.

Sorry to nag about this again, but I again heard a modded Studio Preamp and it really adds something.
So, Im still looking for help on this.

I keep reading zillion posts everywhere on internet about IIC+ modded Studio Preamps, so there must be someone that has like a definite schematic or something to help me out right?

ANY help would be very much appreciated.

Thanx
