On a quest to build a cab for a Mini Rec I spent the last 7 months exploring cab designs, sizes, shapes and speaker types and sizes. I built a 20" x 20" x 12" 4x8 test cab a couple of months ago and really liked the sound and the 32lb weight. I bought some beautiful cherry and walnut to build a wood ***** version.

This is it with 23 coats of linseed oil and mineral spirits. The walnut is Peruvian and most of the figure is hidden in the darkness.

I plan to build a baffle for a 10" Gold wired solo and a pair of 8" Weber or WGS wired together.

Wow! That head/cab is beautiful! Looks like you've got some skills with woodworking! Love it

That is some AWESOME work!

The mini rec looks a little strange in there... all that metal with the beautiful wood casing. LOL.

Those cabs are simply killer.

Can you show us a pic of the 4x8 cab? That should be interesting. How does it sound? What speakers did you use?

Here are the pics of both cabs as they stand.

I first tried 2 8" WGS speakers in a 2x12 cab and was amazed at the presence and authority they had. A bit thin on chugga metal but good for everything else. I still had to turn down the bass on the Mini. So I picked up two of the Weber Chicago 8"s. With four of them in the 4x8 cab very good sound. So built the cherry cab and got to missing the Gold I had so I mashed it into the cab as you see.

Current plan is to put a solo 12" gold in the cherry cad and am building a mahogany / maple / zebra wood 4x10 with Golds and Greens. Why? Because of the three sizes I REALLY like the sound of 10" speakers. I will be selling off some of the test cabs as I have too many and I keep finding beautiful wood.
