What if i could say that removing 2 capacitors would fix the muddiness of the nomad? I did some experimenting took the FX loop out into the FX loop in of another amp. I was floored no muddiness amp was real lively! hmm so the mud is all in the power amp! Well i forum'ed a bit and it's been suggested the capacitors on the PI's load is the source of mud!. As soon as i get a chance i'm going to remove them.

I've already done a bias mod and fx serial mod.

If you could say that I might be convinced to keep mine! That's the major reason I'm lookin to lose mine. I'd love to hear all about all the mods for the Nomad. [in one place, maybe a *cough* Nomad subforum?]

Any way to post before and after .wav files with the same eq settings?

Thanks for raising this. There is something odd about the power amp section of the nomad: When I run a outboard preamp into the effect return loop, the sound is very very different (and not good), compared to when I use my Heartbreaker power amp with the outboard pre.

However, I don't have any major complaints with the way the nomad's preamp works with the power amp...

Here's a test I'm going to try: I'll take the effect loop out from the nomad and run it into the Heartbreaker's effect return and see how the nomad's preamp sounds with the HB's power amp.

If that works out, its a simple matter to mod the nomad to the HB specs.

Well, I would be very interested in any power amp mods (and other mods) that would fully remove the mud. Please post as you experiment.

will do, just need to take a pic and show the schematic change. Doesn't require removing anything just putting a trem pot over the bias resistor already there.

Well. a trim pot would make the mod adjustable, right. And please make the pics and diagram so that I can show it to a tech and have him understand what we are doing here. I'm not good enough at this stuff to do it myself.

Well i mod'd my amp today and wow took all the mudd off channel 3, didn't thin the amp out at all either. Made it so i don't have to use my sonic stomp to enjoy the amp. Now it didn't turn the amp from a dark amp to a super bright amp just took the mudd away. Making the amp bright will require a presence mod on the power amp. The presence controls on the individual channels r basically a high frequency dump to ground. A true presence control is part of the NFB in the power amp.

here is a pic of what i did today the caps marked in red r the ones to remove.

Real simple mod see the sharpie slashes? ok say the side with 3 slashes is pin 3 and the side with 1 slash is pin one. Remove all the wires from the pot, then solder together the wire from pin 1 and 2 and insulate. Then just insulate the wire from pin 3.

i would appriciate if someone would take pic of there unaltered nomad insides. i forget how some of the wires were routed and isolated from each other.

I can take some virgin nomad pics when I get home tonight, since you were so nice to share those mods with us. Maybe I can do before/after pics/clips too! [we need a smiley that's tenting his fingers like Mr. Burns!]

I'm either too old, or drunk, or both, but I can't see the "r" markings or the "slash markings" in the pics. Sounds like a good mod, but I need something I can take to a pro and say "do this". I can't tell much from the schematic, either. Also, will this work on a 55?
