The interesting thing about the RA vs TC is that most of the difference you're hearing is the difference in the power section. The preamps on the two are the same with the exception of the the extra master and separate tone controls on the red channel of the TC. It's amazing how much difference the power amp makes in the tone and feel between the two.

Do you know this for a fact? that the preamps are identical? I can do a master slave and find out.
Topographies are different to some extent. Have not opened up the chassis to look at components and figure out the differences in the circuits. Note that the tone controls do not function the same way as they do on the RA but may be due to adjustable presence vs fixed presence.

Actually I can even slave the Roadster for a better comparison and exclude the RA power section and the TC power section.

It does not matter much how they compare. They are similar but yet different. More Mesa love in my books.

Hint: it matters what cabinets you are using. Vertical rec. 212 with a TC-50 will sound very much the same as the RA100 running an OS Rec.412. I just found this out about an hour or so ago. The TC-50 is a bit tighter on the Hi/Lo channel but the RA100 can be re-tubed to be very close. Feature set is very attractive with the TC-50. Love the independent reverb settings for each channel. Tone wise with proper cabinet matching (and stock tubes) they sound very close.
