Just got a Fast Track 2 yesterday and I've been playing around with the Metallica Ir Gold impulse pack that's kicking around the net. Whilst trying out some of the free amp vst's out there with it, I came across a sound which seems like a passable black album tone. It's the results of a 20 min mess-around, so it needs work, but I thought someone here might want to try it, see if they can get it a bit tighter and more accurate.

Put a vid up here of Holier than thou and Sandman rhythms using it. 2 tracks, both centre panned. It's not perfect, just a quick clip, but here it is:

I've used the TSE 808 first in the chain, to tighten the mids a bit and remove some of the boominess from the bass end.
Next is the NRR-1 from Ignite Amps.
Lastly the LePou Lecab impulse loader, using the aforementioned Metallica impulses. I've found only the Justice and Lightening impulses are accurate in the set. The other stuff is good, but I just don't hear Metallica in them. For this tone, instead of using the black albums impulses, the Blackened ones did the trick. They're far tighter than the black album selection.

Reference settings as follows:

All knobs set to default on lecab. Not sure if you need all 3 pairs switched on, might be able to use 1 pair and adjust the vol, I'm new to using this.

You still got some tweaking to do...

Here's the closest I've ever heard someone replicate the Black album tone, check it out, maybe it'll help you on your quest: http://www.soundclick.com/bands/default.cfm?bandID=298888&content=music
