DiscoStu (fellow forum member) and I made some clips tonight to compare the old and new pickups. I have the new pickups in my standard JP6 (Crunch Lab/LiquiFire) and he has the original pickups (custom wound Steve's Special/Air Norton) in his standard JP6.

We used my DC-3 through a Mesa 3/4 back 1x12 mic'd in another room with a Pearl CM-2000 mic placed on axis, just inside the edge of the cone, touching grill cloth, with blankets over the cab. No amp setting changes were made. DiscoStu did the playing and I did the recording/micing/editing. All I did was normalize the clips - no EQing.

For streaming only clips go here:

To better hear the differences between these pickups download the raw .wav files (in a .zip file) here:

they sound very similar to the old pups bit smoother. also the crunch lab sounds like a lot more humming coming out of the amp at the start of the clip and the end? maybe different amp setting between sound clips?

nope, did not touch the amp so the comparisons would be fair. It's a hotter pickup though so maybe it's picking up more interference. They sound great though. Much more lively and more character than the original pups. Gonna hold on to the old pups though. Would like to find an alder-bodied guitar to stick them in or might buy a used Sterling JP50 and replace the pups.
