I'm sure you've all seen this amazing demo of the Mkv 25 ft. Andy Timmons

Question is do these settings translate well onto the Mkv 90w version? Anyone here tried these on the 90w?

Thx!

Generally they do quite well, yes.
Theres great continuity in Channel 3 mkV/Channel 2 MkV:25.

The midboost in the channel 1 crunch is a unique thing to the V:25. But aside from that, the Venn diagram of Mesa coolness shows much commonality indeed. The brightswitch difference is the only thing I can think of as a difference in Channel 3.

Sweet! Thank you!

I too think pretty close. There will be some variation but it is not huge to me.

Even at the lowest volumes, the 90w has slightly more body and articulation (more apparent w/ cleans), but the 25w still translates very well... and as Markageddon said, tons of continuity with channels 2 and 3. Differences won't be readily noticeable until you're really pushing them (i.e. you're obviously going to lose low end faster with the 25w trying to be heard over your drummer).

The 25w, 35w, and 90w each have their own character, but they are similar enough so if you find a setting you like on one, you can use it as a starting point of reference on another, and tweak your way into (approximately) what you're trying to get.

I agree they are very similar. I have the 35w and from numerous 90w videos I have dialed in the same settings and its there. However as mentioned above, I am sure the 25, 35 and 90 all have there own characteristics. Different tubes, different wattage, that's gonna change things a bit here and there.

And heres how they compare post-mod with pretty much the same settings, same cab, same distance and position, output vols differing a bit:

I haven’t tried them side by side but apart from the points already raised (ch 1 mid-boost etc) I recall the preset internal volume was slightly higher on the 25w than on the 90w (around 7.75 vs 7.25 on the 25w and 90w respectively).this gives the 25w slightly more gain and more treble hitting the presamp. So if looking to achieve the same tone on the 90 as you have on the 25 for any high gain modes you’d increase gain or treble by approx 1-2 on the dials. I’m not expert though so feel free to correct for anyone that’s looked into the schematics or has A/B’d both.

I concur...! One day i'm gonna get some el34s in and see if the similarity powerstage wise increases too on the 90watter.
Amazed by how the 84s sound in the v25 though. That dynawatt/power thing they do kicks some serious arse.
