Hello,

My Mark V head started to sound very weak on overdrive ch2 and ch3 and failing on ch1. Maybe I have bad tube(s)? My amp was bought in 2014 and I only play at home a couple of hours per week. Do you guys think it could be time to replace all tubes? ($$$ $$$)

Thanks!

If the tubes haven't been changed since you bought it, then that might be a solution. It might solve your issues, so it's a good place to start.
I would bring it in to have it check out. If you play 5-6 hours a week, I doubt it would wear out the tubes unless you had a bad batch of tubes to begin with.

Just as a reference, for the past 5 years I gig with a Mark IV weekly. I play in a cover band and I did over 150 gigs last year at 3 hours a night. I change my tubes after one of them blows which was once every year on average. 2016, I blew two sets of 6L6 over 6 months. Obviously, your mileage may vary.

If you play 3-4 hours a week over 4 years, that is equivalent to a weekend warrior playing a Friday night a couple times a month for a year. I could be time to change your tubes, but I'd be more likely to bring the amp in and have a tech give it a look.
