The Manual says that all 2C's were hard wired in Triode. I assume this meant all Simul-Class versions? I also assume that only 1 pair of power tubes were in Triode?

Anyhoo, I really like how you can nail harmonics at will in Triode. The sound is pure midrange. However, in Triode, you can't get it to sound very big. Is this what an original 2C is like? It will sound bigger if you switch to Pentode, but you lose some of that harmonic focus. Switching to the IV mode is bigger still, but then you lose that characteristic upper mid sound.

Comments?

I believe you're correct that it was just one set of tubes were wired Triode on the SimulClass models. The Mark IVs allowed you to switch like the V does.

The Mark IIC+ mode in the V is essentially a IIC+ with the PULL DEEP off and the smaller GEQ filter cap reducing lows further like the non-GEQ models. So it naturally sounds a little less full than the real IIC+s were capable of, as they would have the larger cap allowing more low end into the GEQ and you could engage PULL DEEP to further enhance the low end.

The Mark IV mode is actually essentially a IIC+ with the bigger GEQ filter cap and PULL DEEP engaged. Theres one additional resistor missing from the middle of the lead channel which might increase saturation slightly but I'm not sure exactly what it's affect. Does Triode in Mark IV get you any closer?

Ya know, I never tried it in the IV Mode! I guess I always associated Triode with the 2C Mode because of what the manual said. But man, that mode could use some Pull Deep. I guess they wanted each Mode in that amp to be different for the most tones possible.

Although the IV Mode has more gain and compression compared to the 2C, I'll need to roll off the Bass and gain a bit to see if I can get that same upper mid vibe going.
