Mesa Lonestar with closed back cab?

Post by bluesyballer27 » Sat Dec 31, 2016 9:46 am

I have a pair of Lonestars (LSS 1x12, LSC 2x12) and I love them. I also have a 4x10 cab and I mix and match cabs and amp with great results. The Lonestar with Tung Sol 6v6's through the 1x12 is one of the most gorgeous sounds I've heard yet--right up there with a really good Princeton or Deluxe. Recently I've been enjoying Channel 2 and getting the sounds I want (JTM-ish to EVH type tones, but a bit warmer)...but I wonder how Channel 2 would sound through a closed back 1x12 extension cab...and what speaker might work? A cab/speaker set up that would give a little more punch, clarity, and tightness. Anybody tried this? Suggestions?

Maybe a Thiele cab with an EV12L?
Classic Mesa/speaker combination.

The Mesa Widebody closed back 1x12 with either a Mesa V30 or a WGS ET65 sounds pretty sweet in this way.
