Hello folks,

I'm looking to replace the standard footswitch for my 5:50+ with two of these http://www.bax-shop.nl/footswitch-toebehoren/mesa-boogie-voetschakelaar-voor-mini-rectifier-25

My question is if these would work when plugged into the channel and solo jacks on the back of the amplifier. I am unsure if this pedal needs a stereo or mono jack cable. The amplifier manual says to use mono jack plugs for the jacks on the back. Would using a mono plug in this type of footswitch damage anything or would it even work at all? What about a stereo plug into the amp jacks?

I hope someone here could shed some light on this.

Yes, that will work. You will just need a regular mono cable for each or something like this- http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/DK20.

I use two of these. Mono cable. One on on the channel switching and one for the boost.

You can get two of these for less than the price of the one in your link once you do the currency conversion.

In fact wonder if you could take one of these

And on the amp end of the cable split the stereo into two monos.

I have asked Switchdoctor if this is possible but so far they don't seem to understand the question telling me they don't make an 8 pin switch for the Express and I should use two of the single switch boxes even though I clearly told them I am already doing so. I don't see why the Lonestar switch would not work if you use a stereo to y splitter cable.

Thanks for the replies guys. I have ordered a Y cable that splits a stereo into two mono jacks. If this works I may not even have to get a footswitch as the one for my fender superchamp should work just fine. I'll let you know if it works out. Cheers!

I believe the Fender foot switches are not just mechanical on/off switched but are actually part of a circuit and change an impedance in the amp which does the internal switching. When the Superchamps first came out they did not have the dedicated foot switches available yet and were on backorder. There was a Crate footswitch that would work although the lights did not work properly and I used one of those, guy at GC gave me one after the Fender one had been on order for so long. If you check the Fender FDP forum, not the official one, and the early post in the Superchamp forum you can get the deatils.

Proceed with caution

I did get a respond back fro Switchdoctor on the Lonestar switch and for similar reasons it would not work. Some Mesa's like the Lonestar are part of a circuit, they will read in the description "gets LED power from the amp". Others like the Express will read "LED''s require battery", these are just mono switches. I did find another they make which appease to be the two mono switched and even has a hard wire cable that splits to two 1/4" mono plugs. Waiting g their response.

Yea the superchamp footswitch didn't work properly. It only works for channel switching and ONLY then when the effects switch was turned to the "on" position. As you said this will most likely be the same for the Lonestar switch. I'm curious what answer you'll get regarding switchdoctor but even so they only ship to the US and I live in Europe. I did find this website http://www.brightonion.co.uk/ which seems to be well versed in the footswitch making business. I'll have a look around and ask if they have one that can do a Y cable mono x2 for the express.

Yes, they said their switch would work in fact they also have a mini switch.

Thank you for your message and the link.

Yes the dual latching footswitches below would work with the Express amps if you connect the two using an insert cable just fine.

I hope that helps, let me know if you have any further questions.

Kind regards, James.

Got mine in a couple of weeks ago. Really nice! Solid case, I ordered a red light on one switch and a blue one on the other. I am using for Channel switching Solo so added stick on letters by each light. I run a single stereo cord to the back of the amp where the channels split to the two 1/4" plugs. I got mine with the battery bracket because just lighting the led the battery should last a long time a the normal function for each is light not on.

If you want a commercial grade two button switch box to replace the bigger four button and go on your pedal board highly recommended.
