When using the 5W setting only one tube is used, right? If the amp is most often used in this setting would it make sense to frequently switch the power tubes around so that it's not always the same tube getting the most use?

Well the wiring configuration is Single-Ended instead of Push-Pull, but not sure if that means the use of only one tube. The Lonestar Special is pure class A and allows you to assign 1, 2 or all 4 tubes, and giving a rating of 5, 15 or 30 watts.
So, if the Express is using only one tube, that mean that we could customize the power section to use 2 tubes and get maybe a rating of 15 wats in class A!! :D
That would be cool...

means only one tube is used because the OT would have to have an air cap to run both SE. i could give the tech explanation.

I've noticed, that in the 5 watt setting, one of the power tubes has less blue glow than the other. It still glows a bit but not as much as when it's in 50 watt mode.

It might not be a bad idea to rotate the power tubes if you use the 5 watt mode a lot.
