Hi guys,

I recently got a Mesa Boogie 50 Caliber + and I really like it. I would like to get a new speaker to fix some things I don't really like about the stock one. The new speaker has to:

- sound smoother with less attack. The stock Mesa is super fast, too much for my liking. I want something with a slower response to tame those spiky note attack
- sound warmer and fatter. Less highs, more lows and low mids

i use this amp set clean with humbucker equipped guitars ('81 G&L F100, LP with Di Marzio DLX Plus) and lots of pedals/loops. Main distortion are a vintage Rat and a MJM Foxey Fuzz. I play jazz, funk and psychedelic stuff.
I tried a Celestion Vintage 30 which was better but still too bright and dynamic and a WGS ET90 which wasn't all that different from the stock speaker.

What would you suggest?

I can't stand that stock speaker either. I don't have the 50 caliber but I do have the 22 caliber. I bought a Eminence Canibus Rex and it smoothed those rough edges you are talking about completely away. Cheap fix.

I really like the Celestion Redback. It sounds good right out of the box. Here’s the thread on it:
