EVM 12L pro line voice coil repair?
Here's one for the speaker guru's on the board. Forgive me for my ignorance on this but the EVM 12L pro line in my Mark III died a horrible death last week. Took it to a local amp tech/builder, who informed me that the voice coil is "open", which apparently means it's cooked. I've been searching the web for repair possibilities, with not much luck. Anyone got any experience with this? Is it economically viable to get his repaired, or is it better to buy a new speaker? Any responses are appreciated!

I imagine it could be re-coned. Comes with a new coil. Shop around and see if you can get the original or as high quality a substitute as you can. You want to preserve the original sound as closely as possible.
I have seen a place on the web that offers re-cone kits you can install yourself, for many speakers, but not necessarily for an EVM.
Can't recall the name, but google should find it.

The electro voice speaker is super easy to recone if you buy the kit that is already put together for you. Real easy, you just get the old one off and put on some glue put the new parts in and you're done, I've done several. No special tools are needed just a little acetone to clean the old residue off. The kit comes with the glue and the paper spacers you need and all the directions. It takes about a half hour if you don't know what you're doing but once you get going you could probably do one every 15 minutes.

Thanks for the replies. I'm checking into the recone kits as well as a few places that do them.
