Interesting things to be had with this amp...

is it smoother with lead gain lower than lead drive?

ex: 8 and 8 sounds good, a lot of guys seem to use that, (I have been around that setting plenty) but 6 and 10 pretty much the same amount of gain but maybe smoother..?
I might be playing tricks on my ears, just curious about your thoughts...

It's pretty subjective how these 2 knobs work together. To my ears Lead Gain brings up the gnarly; Lead Drive brings up the same but with a bit of compression. They both just control levels of different stages of the cascading gain stages. You can pretty much switch them around and get similar sounds - in fact that's what they did on the Mark 5:25, without really saying so - it has preset gain levels, and the actual gain knob is placed in the circuit the same place as the lead drive knob would be (I was informed of this by Andy West or someone similar when I made an enquiry about where the Lead Drive knob had gone).
