Help Identifying Amp

My friend inherited this amp from his dad. Can you help me identify the model and what it might be worth?

Looks like a non-reverb 60 watt Mark I from 1978, very nice!

Beautiful amp! Must sound awesome with right tubes.

Do you guys know who made the speakers in these? That looks like an original, right?

Sorry, I don't know much about the Mark series. I'm an Electra Dyne guy now & used to own a LoneStar.

The speaker is an Altec Lansing, and is probably the original to that combo.

I think it is an alnico Eminence.
I think I can even guess there is a number 67 in the second line in white print, but I am probably wrong.

If you can respond with the codes on the speaker that cannot be read clearly in the photos we can help you out.

Yup, I think an Altec would have a grey frame and a white bell cover. They were/are much "fancier".
Those power tubes look like the "right tubes" to me. Pre-Mesa-label Sylvania STR-415s? Oh, yes!

According to the letter that Randall Smith sent in 1976 to potential buyers of the Mark I, the standard speaker for the 60 watter was either the Vega (Cerwin Vega?) or the G-12 (Gauss?).

For the 100 watter, it was the Eminence MS-12. As optional upgrades, he recommended the Altec 417-8H II for its fat tones (Santana, Richards) and the JBL K-120 or the EVM 12-L for jazz and country players (Carlton, Garcia).

You have a 60 watt, vintage Mark I. It is one of the last Mark I manufactured.
The highest number I have ever saw was an A2213 from July 1978 (although I also saw an A2179 from August 1978).

Yes! I forgot to mention the Sylvanias!

What I am really not sure is whether that speaker can handle the 60 watt.

No, it is I who am wrong. :wink: That basket does look like an Eminence.

you have such a deep knowledge about Boogies that I wanted to ask you whether you have ever seen any of those Vega (Cerwin Vega?) or those G-12 (Gauss?) speakers factory installed in a Mark I.

Yes, those are Sylvania power tubes which the Mark I, II circuitry were design around so fix bias.
I too think those speakers are Eminence and perhaps alnico because ceramic magnets are flat and round.

As for what is worth, I'm not sure what its value but to a Boogie collector it has some value. The dymo tape lettering tells me its quite original, before they starting building chassis plates with lettering.

Again apologies for resurrecting an old post, but yes this looks to be a mid 1978 Mark I, and in very good shape. I think the speaker is an Altec. Tubes look original style also. They must have been building them hot and heavy that summer, I bought one of the very last Mark I's new back in the day, (Oct 1978), its #2283 so seems they built a few hundred in the second half of that year before they switched over to the Mark II's.

Thanks for all the help guys. I am revisiting this post because the owner of the amp, who I posted on behalf of, has now decided to sell the amp.

Any clue on the value of this amp?
