Hoping to mellow it's distortion channel a tad, I substituted a GE 12AY7 in the V1 socket, along with new Boogie 12AX7s.

Sounds great, much more like classic Boogies. Sounds more like a Mark III I suppose.

Just plugged in a 12ay7 into my .50cal+ yesterday.

Not done fiddling, but it did open up the clean channel quite a bit. The lead "channel" still loses some extreme high end, but maybe the EQ can work around that.

I did notice, just messing around, that the gain (whatever the first knob on the left is) dimed with the lead channel out (rythym setting) sound GREAT!

I may run the .50 like that, and get cleans from my BF Bandmaster. 8)
