I accidently plug my amp in with both the power and standby switches on (What a dumb-ass). Now there is hardly any volume and only the output pot affects the volume, the masters don't do anything. What the hell did I do to my baby! All the tubes look fine and I tried different power tubes, still nothing. I performed the loop mod and I am convinced this is not the problem (It is an easy mod to do and looks exactly like it should) . Please help.

Did you fully replace all of the pre amp tubes? I saw a bandmate do this once and it killed 3 preamp tubes. He had similar symptoms as to what you are describing. If that doesn't work I'd get my baby to a tech

Thanks for the quick response. I had an extra set of pre-amp tubes so I replaced all of them but symptoms are the same. I am toying with the idea of undoing the mod but I'm positive I did it right (very simple). At least I can confirm I don't have a tube issue. Thanks for the advice on that . It was helpful

I concur with you.....reverse the mod but if that isn't it then get it to a tech. PM monsta tone on this forum as well. The guy is pretty wise when it comes to DCs and diagnosing problems

Thanks Sixstring. I will give it a try. Monsta is the man I will have work on it. I'm from Mass. so the amp is going a little ways but there is'nt anyone around here who is capable of messing with the Boogies. I've searched before to get some maintainance and some guys who were Boogie dealers were'nt even familiar with the DC5. I was even told by one dealer that there was no such model! I brought the amp to show him just because he was rather smug and poo-pooed me. His attitude changed quickly . But that is what I am dealing up here.

If you don't have anything in the loop just plug a patch cable thru your loop. I did a loop mod and with nothing plugged into the loop I get the same thing happening.

That did the trick, plug in a patch, works, pull the patch, no go. Thank you espexp. You saved a man from depression. I lost my job and my Boogie on the same day. The job ain't no big deal, but my Boogie is another story . priorities! Thanks again Grailtone members for your suggestions.

The Send jack has a switching mechanism on it. But....it is a really good idea to replace it with a new Switchcraft 12A jack when you do the mod.
It is mandatory for me when I do this to anybody's amp because the entire signal passes through this jack and the old plastic ones just aren't that great to start with.

Otherwise, you might have the signal cutting in and out and have to use a jumper cord between the Send and Return.

viewtopic.php?f=28&t=42531&start=0&hilit=switchcraft

That might be your problem
Hope it doesn't happen to me I did the same mod

I think I'm going to get one of those jacks. It's time to google Switchcraft.

Thanks to all at the forum. Kartoffel, Thanks for the info, it does help. I'm going to change that jack as well. Sixstring, +1. This place has been a HUGE source of information for me as well. Thanks to this forum I feel I can tackle any problem that my Boogie has (Which has'nt been anything that I have not been at fault for. ) This amp has been "Ole Realiable" since the day I bought it.

This is a great place to get them if you don't have a good electronics store near you.
I would only use a Switchcraft in this position. Best $1.85 you could ever spend on your amp!

Thanks Monsta, Since they are so inexpensive I think I'll purchase more than one. Monsta-Tone, would you recommend having a spare? Or a few? I guess what I'm asking is can I use the switchcraft as replacements for any of the jacks? I like being prepared with spare parts around. Also, I need a replacement gain pot for the 2nd channel (Yea, I broke that too, again it's never Mesa's fault, always mine ) Recommendations? Thank you in advance. You have been a HUGE help to me and so many others and I will be bold for a moment and speak on behalf of the forum. WE APPRECIATE IT VERY MUCH

   Thanks!

I like the CTS and Alpha pots from Antique Electronics. www.tubesandmore.com
They have pretty good prices on tubes and most other parts for amps as well. Just make absolutely sure to tell them you want the tubes bubble wrapped! I've had some issues with EL-34's and 12AX7's looking perfect, but not working!

The Gain pot is a 250k Audio, but they used small frame pots because of the size limitations in the chassis.
You could call them and see if they carry a CTS in this size and frame, or you could just call Mesa.
These also have a plastic "D" type shaft, so I don't think that the knobs will fit a solid shaft pot.

As for extra jacks, I think that the only other jack that is this type that wouldn't need to be isolated from the chassis is the input jack.
If you were to get some spares, I don't think it would help much.
The only reason that the Send jack fails is that the DC's were more of a budget amp and they used cheaper jacks to keep the overhead down. Since all of the signal passes through the Send jack once it is a Series Loop, it is important to have a higher quality jack in this position. I haven't really seen any other jacks fail on a Mesa, with the possible exception of the Input jack or operator error!

That's some great information, I have been steered in the right direction. I know watcha mean about skimping here on there on parts. I bought a Valvetronics head as a toy for home (All kinds of buttons to play with). Within a year I had 8 of 13 jacks on that piece of crap replaced. Now I could'nt sell it if I wanted to because 2 of the replaced ones don't work. Oh well, at least it has a decent tuner built in that I still use
Live and learn as far as purchase is concerned. Thanks for the info. Solid purchase for parts coming soon. (And when I break something else, again never Mesa's fault  )
