I picked up a green stripe MKIII to develop some mods for including dedicated input gain controls for the rhythm/lead and clean channels and whatnot, and being in a 240V country, the having to use my variac to power it is annoying. The local distributor has a suitable transformer but it's $500. I ain't paying that.

I've rewound a few transformers for customers and want to see what we anyone here has done a 240V rewind on the 561100? The service guy at the local distributor told me he had heard of someone doing it but because the domestic transformer has less iron, it was saturating at idle when it was rewound to 240V.

Why don't you just get a step down/Up transformer for 40 bucks. No need for a variac.

Because I run an amp repair/modification business and have a variac on my bench. I hate step transformers and the inconvenience isn't worth it to many of us. When I'm done with the amp it'll be sold off so the end goal is to see whether I sell the transformer or whether I can rewind it.
