I sat down with my Mark III over the weekend and played around with a few different settings. At some point I ended up with the treble, bass, and mid all at about 4, with the Volume control at around 7 or 8.

I was able to get some very good tones this way in all three modes. Clean was great but Lead was REALLY enjoyable. I had the Lead Master up at around 7 or so and used the graphic eq to dial back in some of the treble I'd taken out with the regular tone controls.

I know that treble adds additional gain and tends to reduce the impact of the bass and mid controls when turned up. Keeping it turned down really improved the overall tone, at least this time around :)

Interesting idea. I'll have to give that a shot. On these amps I always default to running the treble pretty high because I like that bite that it adds to the distortion.
