hi gals & guys ~

i recently found my IIC. its originally a from 10/10/1979.
there's supposed to be a pre-amp section of just 5 tubes in there.
this one's got a 6th pre-amp tube.

does anyone know what the function of this 6th tube is ?

thanks !

joepie

it does whatever the person who modified the amp wanted.....

take some pics of the chassis innards and post them...maybe we can figure it out for you.

What intrigues me most about this is the fact that you just "found" it. I want to just "find" an amp like this :p

ok gals & guys, thanks for all the help thusfar;
i am now informed it is actually a IIA modified to a IIC.

still clueless regarding the extra 12AX7 ~

i placed an ad on a local website, and this guy contacted me
saying he had this boogie sitting in his room for ages, unused. ha !

ok i've got some pics uploaded, for those of you interested:

thanks for viewing, i am curious if anyone can shed their light on this mystery !

thanks GTS for your suggestion regarding posting links, i will keep to it in the future.

in addition to the rest, its bass-knob is pullable.

1979 puts it in MK IIA range for sure.
Upgraded to IIC spec? Odd.

Btw place the image links between img tags, doing so it's easy to place pics in a thread.
Definately a 60 watt

it looks like it might have had a 7th preamp tube at one point. the pic of the inside of the chassis....wow. there's a lot going on in there. there's a lot more circuitry in there than a 'simple' IIA to IIC upgrade....

Any soundclips or description of its sound?

awesome

i honestly did not expect it to sound this good.

it is a very responsive instrument in every way.

i can just sum it up by saying this is the most "organic"
sounding amp i have ever played.

alrightee.. i've figured out what the 6th pre-amp tube is for..

its connected to the fx-loop jacks

thanks 4 all yer help on here !  go barack !! :D

errrr... ah, well mine does too! It's in a black plastic factory holder. It's the spare!
SURELY you don't mean that one right? Are you goofing with us?

PLEASE post up a picture of its location.

its located on the chassis's far right, as seen from the rear.
the fx loop jacks are at the right side, and right under that is mounted a 6th tube.
i'm actually not sure whether its got anything to do with the fx loop.
could it ?

First my appoligies. I thought I was the first guy to answer you! NOW I see my post was on the second page. If it were mine I would take it out and see what didn't work. If you could, send it to Mesa in Petaluma for a looking at.
