Marshall 8412 cab for F50 Head ?

Post by Bostonpubrocker » Sun Feb 16, 2014 6:24 pm

Hi, I'm new to this forum. Just looking for opinions on using an old Marshall 8412 cab for my F50 head. Original speakers G12L 35's. I've read mix reviews. I like the light weight. I play mostly clean, crunchy on solos/lead. I play classic rock, blues and a little country. For guitars I use a 58 American vintage series Tele (main guitar), 09 American deluxe strat and a 98 Les Paul Double cut Standard, carved flamed maple top. I have cab on layaway $150.00, good shape for an early 90's cab. I gig in small to mid size pubs with my F30 combo (EL84) and/or my Express 5:50 combo (6L6). Love both amps, but also fell in love with the F50. Wanted a head with a 4x12 cab, to push more air at bigger venues. Thank-you for any input, Dutch. :)

8000 series Valvestate's (1st gen) were made in the first half of the '90s.
2nd generation begin with VS and were made in the second half.
3rd generation, AVT, go from 2000 on.

Those 8412 cabinets are lightweight. I was just moving one around that belongs to my drummer, tonight at my band's practice place.

The construction is very similar to a 1960B, plywood with a brace in the middle. Just more compact.
They are made a hell of a lot better than the cheap pressboard MG412s that I use for band practice.

Guitar Center usually sells them for $150-$200.

I can't comment on how they sound because I have never plugged in to one.
Those are Celestion speakers, they should do alright for what you want to play.
You can always change out speakers.

Thanks for the imfo. I mainly use combo's for portability and quick set-ups at gigs. My first amp, back in 1977 was a 1965 Fender band master head with a 2x12 Univox cabinet, bought used 150.00. So I'm just hoping to learn and get input on a good set-up/match, for my F50 head. It's been a long time since I played thru a half stack. I liked the tone I got at the store with my F50 and the Marshall 8412 cab, that I have on layaway. I want to make sure it will be a good match, before I pay it off. Thanks again, Dutch.

It's 8 ohm, just like Mesa cab's.

You can give your combo's a boost by plugging the speaker and the cabinet in the 4 ohm jacks, as well.

Thanks Mike, Going to try that with the combo's. Curious on how my Express 5:50 will sound thru the 8412 cab.
