I had a pretty fraught experience with my Ace 50w head last night. I set up in my gig, tuned the guitar, flicked the Ace from standby to on, expecting my usual sweet clean tone......nothing. OK, I thought, there must be a simple explanation for this.
I tried:
FX Loop switched in/out
Bypassing my pedal board and going 'straight in'
Different cables
Different guitars
Different modes and rectification settings
I managed to limp through the gig with an EH 44 magnum, which I keep for emergencies (big shout out to EH for making a tiny box that can get you through a reasonably loud gig!)
I recently re-tubed the whole amp with good quality valves and heeding Mesa's advice on cathode followers needing to be Chinese, etc. Tube sockets all appear OK, lights coming on, but no noise of any kind. No pops, squeals or anything else to indicate a tube issue, buy my suspicions are pointing me to a tube problem.
Anyone have similar experience? Any suggestions?
Thanks
