When I tried it this amp I loved the clean but wasn’t too sure about the lead channel. It has enough gain, but seemed a lot “looser” than I wanted. I would call it a mudiness that I cannot dial out. Using a SD1 in front of the amp brightens it up, but I want that bright/tight feel on the channel.

I have ordered replacement power tubes, as these are “General” branded and look older. I was also considering possible speaker swaps, since the original V30’s may be contributing to the things I don’t like.

Any speaker or other suggestions to brighten up ONLY the lead channel?

Swap out the preamp tube or tubes that are responsible only for channel 2.

Thanks. I’ve tried that. V2 is supposedly for channel 2 and it had a 12at7 in it. I swapped that out for a few different 12ax7’s and a 5751 including a older US 12at7 and settled in a TAD 12ax7. I am continuing that process but sometimes I feel After playing a while it is harder to tell the difference between tubes.
