there we go: I'm about to record the guitars for my bands' album very soon and was planning to do so with my beloved Mark IV. But all of a sudden there was a cool opportunity to get my hands on a Mark V, so i sold the Mark IV and will have the V next week. Since i only played the V in shops from time to time my experience with it is very modest.

So, to every MarkV-User with experience with direct recording: Any tips and tricks for me?
My bands' music is quite diverse, so i need to get a good tone out of every channel basically...

help is highly appreciated and may result in some credits in our booklet or something :)

I record my V direct using various free and $ impulses. I start my drum track playing then pick one of my go to impulses. I send the guitar input to the channel where I have the impulse loaded, then record a riff on the guitar input channel. That gives my a dry, recorded signal.

Once that's done, I send the recorded wav to the mixer channel with the speaker impulse. From there I play the loop and experiment with different impluses until I get one I like. From there, I may tweak my amp settings a bit until I am satisfied.

Here are a couple examples:

First to have really good result, you can record DI track of your guitars ( clean )
Then, once you got 2 perfect tracks(a left and right of the same riff)
Send the Clean signal in the amp.
From there, you can place a mic or use the fx loop send ( with an implus loader) to re-record with the sound of the amp.

I use an ISO cab (Rivera Silent Sister) as a load and then take the mark v slave DI into protools. I use Recab3 and Redwirez.

I use either a Demeter iso cab or a Hot Plate as a load, with a Radial JDX DI inline between the amp and load.

The JDX is killer, if you ever have the chance, try the JDX with a good room mic, you can do miracle with that !

i use a palmer pdi-09.

i like it better than the jdx, because it has 3 tone settings, the jdx is fixed at one.
