Actually this is THE first music-related board I've joined :)

Had a band in the '90s but eventually got hungry and went to work.

Now I got the bug again and plan to start recording my new ideas so that I'll be able to get them out of my head (for some reason they ring there all the time)
So...

Local market (available now when I have the cash) - mark five:25 + mini slant cab for about the same price of a mark IV. For a mark V combo I'm looking at double the price of either the five:25 or the IV.

Interested ONLY in home recording (silent is the keyword) via either cabclone(five:25) rec/tuner/line out for mark IV-V plus impulse responses if needed.

Style is a combination of ME, Opeth, O.S.I., Dream Theater, Mars Volta and my native folk music.
What does the V has on top of IV sound-wise?

Please help me choose :)

Thanks!

Welcome!
You might have mores eyes on this if you post it in the Mark V section under Modern Era Amps. You'll figure it out. Lots of great information and people here.

If I were in your shoes I'd lean towards either the v25 or the iv. The V is like the Swiss Army knife of amps, it does many different sounds, but if you don't need all that versatility you're better off saving your $ and getting the 25 or the iv. They all sound good, if you're looking for that Mark sound any one will deliver the goods. Most people wouldn't be able to tell the difference between those amps in a recording, even the boogie geeks on this forum. :P But each one will sound different and have their own personality when you're playing.

Generally, you're going to get your mark sound with any of the choices. The v25 sounds like it will be the most economical choice for you, because of its price and the addition of the cab clone. Everyone has an opinion on which one sounds best and I don't think anyone would be wrong. They all sound great.
