I was wondering if there was any good guides on what tubes would be compatible?

I am not really understanding the naming conventions used for the tubes..

I saw this: http://www.talkbass.com/threads/valve-tube-compatibility.34809/
But that wasn't much help...

I was hoping there might be a "reputable" guide on other tubes I could use in place of the 12AX7, 6L6 and EL34 tubes in my amp?

I wanted to try some different tubes if possible..
I don't want to end up with the wrong tubes that are not compatible and end up breaking something in my amp...

Thanks any experienced input appreciated..

Amplified parts has a comparative chart of current tubes. It is okay, The Tube Store also has reviews on preamp tubes.

Some resources for preamp tubes and power tubes. May be helpful.

Also, some preamp tubes may be interchangeable 12AX7, 5751, 12AT7, (avoid going too low in the gain factor).

6L6GC family will include 6L6GC, 7581, 5881, KT66 (may not fit your particular amp).

EL34 family will include EL34, EL34B, 6CA7, KT77, EL34L (may not be suitable for multi-watt class A amps like Mark V due to 10W mode of operation)

Eurotubes also has some resources for power tube substitutions. Depending on what amp you are looking to retube, take in consideration your Mesa Warranty first. Some power tubes may cause component damage to your amp.
