My pops has a Sovtek EL84 in his Marshall Class5 (so you can imagine it gets driven to oblivion a lot) and it sounds great. Much better than the stock JJ EL84 that were in there (which sound surprisingly good in a Hayden MoFo).

Sovtek EL84s came stock in a Crate V18 combo I got on the cheap some years ago (a Marhsall-ish sounding number, that really has a Black Keys dirt when cranked) but sounded really dull but powerful when I stuck them in my Orange. Bias is everything in those tubes since you are driving the power section for distortion.
