Is it true that in order to get the "sag" feel from the rectifier tubes that the amp has to be played very loud? Would the Silicon Diodes be better for bedroom level playing?

I've never liked the diode.....way too stiff, even at bedroom playing....either low or cranked, I always use the tube rectifier setting....

At bedroom levels, the tube setting allows me to push the amp a bit more, as it runs it a little lower.

the 5u4gb's have sag, to my ears, any time you plug em in at just about any volume. the 5u4g tall coke bottles desgins instantly tighten up the sound at any volume. i prefer the latter in my 2ch. to get a classic recto sound. the 5u4gb's on the 2ch make it really dark and ominous, as if i were playing rammstein or something. on the 3ch i *think* i prefer the former. haven't done enought tests.
