I don't want to fry the transformer and I know the voltage is probably way too high on the KT66s to just throw them in there without doing a bias mod or something, but I really want to try these suckers out! If anybody has experience with KT66 tubes or trying different 6l6 varieties in the 50/50 perhaps you could offer some advice. I know the technicians at the store here in town could probably perform the modification, but I don't know if its still a good idea or not. I may just end up getting the Svetlana STRs, or Sovtek 5881 WXT is another option.
Btw, I think the ones I have in there now are ok, the Lead channel on my Studio Pre sounds kind of flabby unless i tweak the heck out of the eq, so maybe I need some new pre-tubes too. I just bought all this stuff about 3 months ago so I'm still getting the hang of it too (the rack rig, that is
