Hey guys - I checked out forum member Gonzo's album Trouble after hearing some of his stuff. I was really curious how his MK2b would compare to my 2C+. The MK1 and MKII amps I played in the past all lacked the gain I got used to having with with my 2C+ so I was really curious. I gotta say ---- wow! Just monster monster tone and drive on this album. There was so much punch to what he was playing I swear I felt the air moving around me as I listened. In contrast my original 2C+ (which is disassembled right now and ready to go back to boogie for a 34 year checkup) it has all the balls and depth that I'd associate with my boogie, with incredible transparency. I wouldn't say it was hurting for gain in any way shape or form. There's still maybe less saturation in the gain of a 2B, but for Gonzo's style of music you'd not miss it at all -- it's full on power punch rock guitar of the first order of awesome. I was so inspired by it I wrote a little album review. If you are a boogie fan and a rock guitar fan - it deserves a place on your rotation. Here's the link to my review. I couldn't recommend it more highly.

mighty nice of you there, Dasein!

appreciate the props!

and maybe, just maybe, somebody wanting a more vintagey boogie tone will hear this,
and it pique their interest....

and maybe even pick up a disc!
heheh

There's an immediacy to the tones you are getting with your boogie. I've really been missing my amp as it sits here really to go back to boogie for recap etc... been playing and recording through amps sims but man -- what a difference a real amp brings to the table. A loaded 2B is a gorgeous amp - amazing cleans, but that growl - that punch from the drive -- very immediate. Would love top hear more impressions from the forum. I saw you posted the title track: https://soundcloud.com/bats-brew/trouble The guitar tones just sing here like a powerful vocalist.

the title track from the new bats brew album "Trouble"

it's a swampy groove that blends acoustics and electric slide for a tender loving story.
LOL

so, on about half the tracks on this album, i used a Palmer PDI-09 to capture line level right off the boogie speaker out.....
so some of that 'immediacy' may be the nature of the dryness of the direct.

and even when i do use the dry signal, i usually will pass it thru just a smidgeon of a 'room' reverb, to give it a certain flavor, based on the rest of the mix of the song.

but the miced up tracks, to me, have the most character.
and they are infinitely variable, just by adjusting the position of the mic.

there is just no comparison i've made to date, thru either the kemper, or axe fx, of a modeled IIb and the real thing.
i had mine recapped back about 10 years now, it really did make a big difference.
those little pieces parts, they have a limited lifespan, and there's nothing wrong with changing the tires on the car when they go bald.
LOL
