Need your advice...
Wich speaker would be better: Vintage 30 or Clasic 80 in 1x12 box?
open or closed? Mark IV has an open combo-wide body.
I like fat sound on cleand and OD, mostly play OD.
Only those two speakers I can choose... Long story.
I need transparent sound that penetrating trough the crowd.

Small car, hurt backs...1x12 is the limit.

Vintage 30 in a closed cab.

Both those speakers are under-powered for an 85 watt amp.
So is the stock 90 watt Celestion Black Shadow.
Just don't turn up over 3.
Get a 150 watt Eminence Texas Heat. Get two for the price of the Vintage 30. They weigh less, too.

There is only one "best" answer---the mighty Thiele with a EVM12L, which is exactly what I pair with my MkIV Widebody combo. It sounds huge! The higher you crank it, the more the EVM shines----you won't want to run the combo alone after hearing it with the Thiele.

Short of that, I'd definitely get a closed back cab with the Classic 80 among your two choices. But the whole point of the closed back cab is to get a broad-shouldered hit, while the half-open combo cabinet disperses more.
