Ring Modulators - Opinions?

I personally love ring modulators, but would love to know what people's output is on them. What do you guys think of them? Too alien for anyone? I've had mixed reactions from people. I really want one.

I really like Ring Modulators provided they are *musical*...the best Ring Mod I have owned was in the Eventide Modfactor. Excellent, excellent effect. FRactal Axe Ultra also had a pretty nice one.

most useless effect there is. unmusical, nasty sounding, like tits on a boar hog. ymmv.

While I like the effect I really never could find a good use for it in my musical style.

I always found them fun to mess about with at home, but as Dom says - never found a practical use for it

I like using them for more percussive tones. It sounds funky, IMO...

The most musical ring mod tone I've ever heard was A Perfect Circle's The Hollow... When blended right it can sound extremely musical
