Hi,

I recently bought a 3 channel Dual Rectifier, and I'm looking to buy an audio controller so I can switch channels + FX on my pedalboard. I'm looking at maybe buying the Musicomlab EFX Mk3+ because of it small size, as it needs to fit on my Pedaltrain2 pedal board.

Now, I would like to know if I can use a 7pin to 5pin midi cable to go from the amp footswitch out (7 pin) into the midi in (5 pin) on the musicomlab EFX? I don't want to use the external switching on my head as that would mean that I would have to run 5 cables from the amp to the pedalboard instead of 1.

The goal of this would be to be able to use the musicomlab to switch to channel1, disable the maxon OD and enable the chorus/delay, etc.

Welcome to The Board.

The Rectifier is not a MIDI capable amp. The footswitch connector is simply a 7-pin DIN connector.

You will need to use the external trigger jacks, or have a custom cable made to interface with the footswitch jack.

Also, the channel switching relays need to have isolated grounds (not a TRS jack that shares ground).

Be sure to download the amp's manual from Mesa's website. The manual is extremely well written and thoroughly explains all the functions of the amp.

Hmm ok thanks for the info. Too bad I guess. So how do I connect the external switching from the amp to the mk3 then? Can I use the FS1/FS2 and FS3/FS4 inputs on the mk3, or do I need t use a separate inputs for each channel on the mk3?

Iem confused. (I have the manual allready, I just don't know how to use that mk3)

According to the mk3 manual ( http://www.musicomlab.com/pdf/efxmkiii+manual_rev10e.pdf ) the switching jacks are common ground and that not recommended per Mesa Boogie (you can always call them yourself @ (707) 778-6565).

Pg. 4 of the mk3 manual shows an example of how to utilize the switching jacks (and that they share the 'sleeve' connection, which is the common ground).

I will say that the mk3 looks like a nice piece of gear though.

You can use the Musicomlab if you use a midi switcher at the amp end of the midi cable. This is provided that your switcher can send midi commands.
I have a Rocktron Patchmate Floor and it is great, but cannot send midi commands, unfortunately.

Something like this:

Voodoo Lab is made in the US too!
