I think it looks promising and great playing. The only question i have is can it be midi controlled to use with the rest of my rack gear, or do you have to use the footswitch shown in the vid?

For MIDI, it can control all your other gear with the MIDI out. MIDI in, controlling the PedalPro with outside gear is not possible because with the 128-step limitation, studio-quality control of the parameters would not be possible. So yes, you have to use the footswitch. Luckily, it's a great footcontroller that is light, easy and unbreakable (no mechanical components).
