step down transformer for mesa 5:50 plus

Post by blackdc5r » Fri Nov 14, 2014 4:31 pm

Hello, guys!

I might buy a Mesa boogie 5:50 plus from the US and import it to EU. Since we have 220-240 volts here, I will need a step down transformer for the US 120 volts. Can someone who has done that or has decent knowledge in electricity give me an advise on which brand to choose and with what wattage ? I have read that the ideal transformer is the one that has twice the watts the amplifier uses.

Kind regards

Boogie has international transformer, with multi voltage taps.
Unless, it is already installed...
many times the power taps are already there.
A technician should change it over, internally. Check the Mesa service center nearest you.

Thanks for the reply.
Unfortunately we don't have Mesa dealers and service centers here. I don't know on which models of mesa is that possible, because all of the players I have seen or chatted with who bought US spec Mesas either change the power transformer or use a step down transformer.
