I've had this guitar in the luthier's shop for over a year, and just picked it up 4/28.. A 3 piece maple neck is now a 5 piece. We widened it with 2 rock maple sides, and customized the back to be rounded at the headstock, and flattened out at the heel. New Gibson fret board, bone nut, new gold hardware, no pickguard, gold knurled knobs, gold 3 way without ring, EMGZW pups, and finished in nitro black... This guitar is frigging SMOKING!!!I had it built for my son's graduation from high school. He's been gigging since he was 15, and is an awesome player. This guitar was customized to fit him. I also have a 1976 LP Custom, all original in wine red. Looking at the 2 side by side is like a before and after picture in a "PIMP MY RIDE " episode!
Really, it's the goddamned coolest Custom I've ever seen. The luthier who did it is just plain awesome!
I'll get some porno shots up soon. Just wanted to GUSH a bit!

WOW! your son is one lucky guy! sounds like an incredible guitar. i've never heard of widening a neck with more wood..post some pics of the before and after. I hope he enjoys it!!

Have just loaded "easy share"(kodak) on computer and took some shots. I haven't figured out how to get pics where I can attach them...
As far as the neck goes, it's hard to see the difference between his and mine, except the fret board which is wider. But the feel is awesome! The luthier shaved quite a bit off the 2 outside pieces of maple, and added 2 additional strips of rock maple. Then reshaped the neck. You'd never know by looking... And it's far more stable. You could go from 13's to 8's and the neck won't flinch...The spacing of the strings is far more comfortable as well. The nut is the same width, but the bridge is notched wider. Very nice on the upper frets for some shredding.
When I get this pic crap figured out I'll post. I posed the 2 LP customs in front of my mark III hardwood stack so it makes a great porn shot.

Some porn for you guys.... Both Les Pauls are 1976 Customs. Can't see much of the neck mods in pics, but you can see the wider fret board. There are also pics of some of our other guitars.. An RG520QS I recently purchased (see thread), my old Charvel Model 4 (awesome), and my son's 2000 USA strat... I'll get other pics of our other guitars in that same link for future references...
You'll note my markIII blue striper, on the 2 EV loaded thieles...Cool huh?
Thanks for looking guys..

Seeing my son's taking after me quite a bit. I thought it was appropriate.
He made it through school without all the drama I had, and managed to play quite a few gigs, and hold up his guitar lessons, and a job which paid for his car and insurance. He's a hell of a talented kid, and thought it was time for a "FINE" guitar....
Anyway, he's had a boner since we got it home, and the Custom hasen't cooled off yet.....
Thanks...

wow, what a lucky son you have!

Do you have any pix of the guitar?

I tried begging my folks for a PRScu22 or LP custom for my birthday, they said yes but it would be a college graduation gift (next year I hope).
So now I just feel like a jerk...

"Hey mom and dad, buy me a 2000+ dollar guitar as a gift for spending SEVERAL thousands of your money to better MYSEFLF!"

I love America
