Footswitch Cable - will Midi extension cable work?

Yeah, the metal ring must be connected, which it is not on a MIDI cable, at least not mine. I learnt that when making my own footswitch for this amp, using a computer network cable and a DIN-5 plug I had lying around.

    could use some recording advice

It is a very good tool. I have a "clone/copy" of this by Behringer (called Ultra-GI100 I think, and is also red...). It can be used on guitar, line, or speaker signals. When used on the speaker signal from a tube amp, it is neccesary to also connect a proper load on its output, because the unit...

220v to 110v power converter, there sound difference?

Mine, with a 100W stepdown transformer does not do anything like that. I have more hiss than hum when I crank it, although even that is not much I would say, compared to how loud the amp is. Nothing connected to the amp input in that video? If you suspect a broken preamp tube, you can do some...

220v to 110v power converter, there sound difference?

No, I don't think it is any noisier than any other typical tube amp.

220v to 110v power converter, there sound difference?

If I remember my own measurements correctly, the 5:25 draws 60-90W of power. I use a 100W step-down converter with it here in Norway (wall voltage is around 230VAC), and it works fine. Of course, I've never been able to compare, but I don't think it should make any difference in tone as long as...

New Video: Express 5:50 with Rory Hoffman! AMAZING!

Johnny Hiland switched to Music Man. I've got the JH PRS. Fantastic guitar!

    express 5:50 gain

I _think_ my 5:25 can get into 80s/90s Metallica/Megadeth territory. But I've never had the original preamp tubes, so a stock 5:25 might have less preamp distortion.

Volume on my 5:50 cutting in and out

I'd love it if my amp could tell me if it had a problem, and specify what it was. But I wouldn't wan't it to nag me if I didn't attend to it, though. On a more serious note, check the manual because I think it contains some description of sound characteristics when the power tubes are on their...

For the LSC or LSS gurus

Well, I would need two have two switches identical to the current 5W/25W switch. Their function would be to select between the two modes independently for each channel. Secondly, I would need a relay (or several) to select which of these that are part of the circuit. This relay would be powered...

Does you Express pop when switching power levels?

Yeah, that's why I wanted to determine if there is a difference between the Express on the one hand and e.g. the MarkV/LoneStar on the other. I did hear from one Lone Star user that the amp didn't pop at all, so that lead me to think about muting possibly going on in the Lone Star. But perhaps...

Does you Express pop when switching power levels?

Hi! Does you Express amp pop when switching the power level while the amp is on (both power switches up)? I have heard that this varies among the Lone Star amps (some pop, some dont), and would therefore like to know if this variation occurs also for the Express amps. The reason is that i'm...

For the LSC or LSS gurus

Interesting... Perhaps the amount of pop depends on the power tubes. Yeah who knows, it might have been muting for too long a time. Thanks for the pic, it seems to use 2.2Mohm resistors across all jacks. Those resistors do help against leaking DCV from other units which heave leaking input...

For the LSC or LSS gurus

Thanks! Perhaps MB never uses any poweramp muting for such switching on their amps. On my E5:25, there a very noticable noise pop when doing 5W -> 25W. The noise is weaker in the opposite direction. Its not loud compared to rock band gigging volume/band practice. Obviously, it is independent...

For the LSC or LSS gurus

Hi! I'm an Express 5:25 owner. As you may know, its power selection circuit is not channel assignable like on the LSC and LSS. I do know my way around a tube amps to some degree, and I want to check if a modification can be done on my Express. Perhaps it is possible to imitate the LS amps? I...

What Boost in Front of 5:50 to get Metal?

I don't need any boost for metal tone on my express. However, anyone who want's to boost the input of a tube amp to increase gain by overdriving the first gain stage would be wise to boost with a unit that has possibility of bass cut. If not, the resulting distortion might sound quite bad. How...

    Advice on amp selection

Adjust the tone knobs exactly wherever the amp sounds the best. I get fabulous sounds from my 5:25 and the tone controls are all over the map. Depends on how much distortion you use and your guitar/effects, and style of music.

    Songs recorded with Express 50

Very impressive work! The guitar and also music itself is very good, IMO. My favourite was "Take the leap". The orchestral section was very good, and when the drums came in it created a special mood that I really enjoyed. It had some nice harmonies as well. IMHO, the ending of that song was a...

    Bought a 5:25 1X12

Just mentioning that I'm using a 5:25 head together with a 1x12 cabinet with a C90 in it. I like it. I'm not able to shed any light on a comparison between C90 and other drivers, though. I find that it is fine for both highs and lows. The cabinet is custom made locally, but to about the same...

Importing Express 5:50 2x12 from US

I have a 5:25, but I'll relate my experience with this anyway. First of all, the my amp has a 1A fuse. So I know it will not draw more than around 1A*110V = 110W in the US. I use it in Norway together with a 100W step-down transformer. I have measured how much power it draws from the mains, and...

    5 watt unequal wear??

To double check my multimeter reading, I also measured my AX84 SEL do-it-yourself amp in the same manner. I have one EL34 tube in it. The seller claims that the output should be around 9W. Assuming that my multimeter measures Vrms: Across 8ohm dummy load Vrms = 8V -> P = 8W This was for a...
