    Mesa Maverick Hum

That approach makes a lot of sense. If you have the time - it would be nice if you could post a follow up of what your tech found. There are so few posts on the less common Dual-Rectifiers, Maverick and Blue Angel. Such great amps. I've owned a Blue Angel since 96. Trivia note: It's...

    Mesa Maverick Hum

Hello. I was just examining Maverick schematics and noticed that the Rhythm channel uses 190v dc power supply, while the Lead channel utilizes 170v. This is achieved by adding additional resistors in series to the circuit when you switch to the Rhythm channel. I appreciated the details you...

Mesa 20/20 Loud Hum Poss. Grounding Issue

This. Original owner of 20/20 and Blue Angel. Sprauge filter caps from that period are some of the best made - however 20 plus years is too long. You might pass the noise through a spectrum analyzer to see if you have a peak at 120 Hz. You should also visually inspect them by taking the...

    Anybody using a Euna?

I use a Euna and find it very useful in preserving top end on my guitar input. I have a treble booster (R2R elec) which I use on my P-90 guitars - in Euna's loop, which is designed for those sorts of pedals. I run all of my pedals into a Mastermind PBC/6X switcher. The loop in the Euna...

Lonestar mod to add 5 Watt mode?

Captor X saved my marriage! Joking but it's the most useful tool I have ever purchased and you get an outstanding recording interface and cabinet sims and much more with it. I have obtained IR's for it that duplicate the speakers in my combo and it amazes me how accurate they are.

What are Mesa Boogie going to do about the tube scarcity?

My Sprague caps are 27 years old as well. No hum, no hiss in my amp.

What are Mesa Boogie going to do about the tube scarcity?

I don't see any shortage. I can buy all the tubes I need. I use mainly NOS in my Mesa in any event. In fact, I've only gone through ~2 sets of tubes in 27 years. Only EL-84's I use are TAD and I can get them at about the same cost as before COVID.

    Awesome Tone at Lower Volume

I had a similar issue with my Blue Angel. If your not familiar with the amp, it has no master volume. It starts to sing at about 10-11 on the volume knob, and is very loud even on it's lowest output tube setting (6V6 only). I purchased an Torpedo Captor-X two years ago and I couldn't be...

    50/50 High Plates Voltage

The wattage prevents it from burning. It's the resistance that's key to the circuit as long as the resistor will physically fit. 1 to 2 watts is a tiny change that will not impact the circuit but will last longer as long as the amp is healthy. Very similar to Voltage rating for a capacitor.

    Cathode Follower in BA/Maverick?

I don't know if this will provide any insight but here goes: As you asked about preamp tubes in your second post I thought I'd provide this. This is what I use in my BA for the last two years or so. I've had the amp 27 years. Using a lower gain triode in V2 is probably the most significant...

    Blue Angel impedance revisited?

Great question. I went back to my manual and just as you say on page 4 towards the bottom is the line, I clearly forgot about this for the 27 years I've owned and played my Blue Angel. For at least 90% of her life my 2X10 Blue Angel has used the 8 ohm output only. The vast majority of her...

    NAD: Blue Angel

Thank you. I'm envious of your environment where you can run your amps fully! Maybe in my next house next year when I move back up north and at least get a basement. Who knows, maybe I'll get lucky and scarf a barn or small building in the back of the house. In my first four years in the...

    NAD: Blue Angel

Congratulations! I wanted to share my experience with my Blue Angel - as I feel in the guitar amplifier community at large - it's a very overlooked, undervalued and misunderstood jewel. Note in fact that the Boogie Forum doesn't even have a section for it. I've owned a 2X10 version I...

Celestion Alnico Gold or Cream for a Blue Angel

I have a Blue Angel 2 x 10 (since 1996) I replaced the original speakers in about 2000 with a pair of Kendricks. About 6 months ago I put in a pair of Celestian Golds and the amp has never sounded better. They aren’t completely broken in yet either as I play my BA through a Torpedo Captor-X...
