Burn Channel suddenly sounds lifeless? Bad tube?

No, all have their original speakers...unless my other two amps are not putting out their rated volume either. If Mesa is selling 14 watt amps as 25 are they not putting themselves at risk of lawsuits? My technical knowledge is limited so bare with this question, is it possible they're using...

Burn Channel suddenly sounds lifeless? Bad tube?

I have a 5:25, a 10W and 14W tube amps. At 5W the 5:25 sounds close in volume to both amps and noticeably louder at 25W so I have to wonder about the 1W statement. Is it possible that some of the 5:25s are faulty?

    Volume cutting out

I'll try replacing V4 again, this will have been the fourth time! The power tubes are only a few months old. The tech at the dealer checked it out and found nothing wrong. I wonder if he did check for loose solder joints. A Mesa tech told me that in the last 5 yrs preamp tubes have been...

    Volume cutting out

It has happened three times that after playing the amp for a couple of hours the volume starts to cut out. I pushed the jack in harder and the volume would return so I braced it tighter with an elastic. After another 15 minutes the sound cut out for good. Turning the amp off and back on again...

Express 5.25 E-50 speaker not too good!

Soundchaser's speaker swapping is a great source of information but there's an important ingredient missing. It would be good to know what kind of music he plays and sound he's after. If he's into metal, for example, his speaker preferences may not be right for someone who's after more vintage...

    Express hiss solution

I've read about alot of people ordering tube kits to cut the hiss in their Express amps. This past weekend I got 5 new Sovtek 12ax7s and plugged them in but first I read the Express manual which suggests moving the tubes around to find the least noisy ones and place those in the V1 and V2 slots...

Ideas for 12" Eminence Speakers for 5:25?

Thanks for your responses. I'd like to ask both of you what type of music you play. The reason I ask is for me to have some perspective on your choices. Thanks.

Ideas for 12" Eminence Speakers for 5:25?

I did a search on this board regarding the CRex and saw more of your post as well as others regarding this speaker, I'll give it a try. Do you have it in an open back cab or do you have the 1X12 version of the 5:25? Thanks!

Has anyone tried 12" Eminence speakers with their Express 5:25?

    Mesa IS boutique' isn't it?

I always associated boutique with hand made. Mesa uses the term liberally, I doubt they are handmade in the true sense of the word. Some hand work goes in but aren't they more of a mass production business? Anyway, they sound great.

Tell me about the Express 5:25

It's a great amp if you like the sound. That seems like a stupid thing to say but you have to listen to it, everything else about is great but the sound has to please you. My main dislikes are that the sound is a bit too thick and dark and the highs kind of spikey. My favourite setting is with...

    Issue with Express 5:25

Aren't 99% of tubes made either in Russia or China?

Solo Boost for Express 5:25 - Tubescreamer?

I have the same amp and played it with a TS9 tube screamer this weekend and I didn't like the sound at all. It was a little to harsh for my ears. I also plugged the pedal into my Gibson Skylark and lost alot of bottom end. Maybe the pedal is ill suited to those amps or it's just a matter of...

    5:25 A/B 1967 Gibson Skylark

I guess constipated is unflattering, just wasn't sure how to describe it having never owned an amp with a compressed sound. Turning the gain way up on the Blues setting makes me forget also.

    5:25 A/B 1967 Gibson Skylark

I was playing those two amps side-by-side just a few minutes ago. For those of you who've never seen a Skylark it's a 5W amp equipped with a 12" speaker. The cabinet is nothing special, nothing like the expensive Mesa cabs. Anyway, I find that my 5:25 is a little dull sounding by comparison and...

    5/50 = bassman?

Hi, I don't have experience with the 5:50 but someone on this board has repeatedly described it as close to a Blackface Twin. Hopefully he will see your post and give more details. Dan

    5W setting and tubes

When using the 5W setting only one tube is used, right? If the amp is most often used in this setting would it make sense to frequently switch the power tubes around so that it's not always the same tube getting the most use?
