What is the best amp you have ever heard or played?

I like BF/SF Pro Reverbs with the Cesar Diaz mod. Killer loud and great natural OD. Very Loud...still half a Twin! I like BF/SF DRs with a Red White and Blues Eminence....Half the Pro Reverb, same tone and killer breakup without the volume. I like Traynor YGM-3 amps. The old hand wired and new...

Palmer PDI-03 vs PGA-04 rackmount loadbox

I just read the link to the thread with the supposed Palmer issues. The Palmer units are not universal with regards to impedance loads. The units are specific for 4ohm, 8 ohm or 16 ohm. If you ran an amp that was not set for a 16ohm load, and you ran it into an 8 or 4 ohm load Palmer unit, or...

    TriAxis/2:Ninety: I THINK I ROYALLY F**KED UP!

Also, the Palmer units are not universal with regards to impedance loads. The units are specific for 4ohm, 8 ohm or 16 ohm. If you ran an amp that was not set for a 16ohm load, and you ran it into an 8 or 4 ohm load, you will very likely damage your amplifier. Also if you have an amp dishing out...

    TriAxis/2:Ninety: I THINK I ROYALLY F**KED UP!

I find it extremely odd that Boogie told the OP that the Palmer gear voids his warranty. What is odd, is that Boogie SELLS PALMER PDI-03 AND PGA-04 UNITS AT THE HOLLYWOOD BOOGIE STORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If I were you, I would call Boogie back, ask them if Palmer voids warranties on their amps, why...

Palmer PDI-03 vs PGA-04 rackmount loadbox

There was a period when Palmer was being sued over the design of the PDI-03. They were ordered by a court to cease production at the time. Palmer was forced to create a new design with new circuitry. The PGA-04 was the result. While it didn't quite handle voicing the same as the original PDI-03...

Too much Frizz on Dual Recto

If you want to try an incredible delay pedal, go find a T-Rex Replica and noodle around. It is incredibly transparant and very addictive. It ain't cheap, but it is definitely one of the greatest on the market. Very cool.

LSC/LSS owners; are you happy with channel2?Want to fix it?

The gain pot on CH2 has a more aggressive sweep than that of CH1. The master volume pot on CH2 has a less aggressive sweep in gain. This is done intentionally by Boogie for a couple of reasons. They compensate the output of CH2's higher gain structure in the master in order to help prevent...

Which EL34s work or do not work in a Rectifier?

Best way is to contact Boogie and ask. Don't mix tube types though. No 6l6s and EL34s.

LSC vs Rivera Suprema 55 - Opinions?

My opinion is that the Lone Star Classic has a much more dynamic sound than the Rivera.

Does Roadster have more gain the the DR's?

I say no in my experience, it is not true. One way to find out for sure; call Mesa Boogie in Petamula, CA. They are extremely friendly and helpful and will certainly answer that for you on the phone :)

    LSS Sounding "Muddy"

When replacing power tubes on Boogies, you should always use the Mesa Boogie Brand, matched sets. You should also take care to match the color codes to the tubes that you are currently running if you are just replacing one. Boogie has an extremely in depth tube testing process and only sells...

    Roadster Appreciation Thread (with settings)

I just picked up a Roadster combo. It is my 2nd Boogie. I also have a LSS. All I can say is WOW. This is a lot of amp, capable of many great sounds. I bought it just looking to get a "fix" for my current "jones" for a new high gain sound. I figured it would be at home with channels three and...

Rectoverb effects loop hates digital delays. Why?

OSCILLATING FEEDBACK This is typically caused when the delay is run in from of a high-gain amplifier. It happens because the delay's repeat/echoed signals are ramped up in the first stage and second stage of the preamp (gain and master outputs) prior to amplification. The higher the gain, the...

Rectoverb effects loop hates digital delays. Why?

HISS Don't mean to ask the obvious, but have you tried changing your patch cables? Are you using the same ones for your other effects ? Also, you should typically run your delay at the end of your effects chain for best performance. If you are not, it can cause undesirable effects.

Too much Frizz on Dual Recto

That is quite normal when dealing with higher levels of gain at low to moderate volumes. If you want to smooth it out, you should do the following: * Turn the volume up considerably; the amplifier was designed to run at stage volumes for peak performance. When you pust the tubes to work harder...

    What was your first amp???

Was in '78. It was an old '60s Kustom bass amp that I used for a Japanese Montaya Les Paul copy. It had the classic cushioned black wrap, with the purple light. Sounded just like John Fogerty :)

    Maverick or LSS???

I pick the LSS for tonal bliss. If anyone wants a bit more gain out of it, I highly recommend the Keeley modded RAT pedal in front of your amp. You only need the distortion @10:00 and the level (volume knob of pedal) @ 1:00; amp gain on channel 2 @ just past 12:00, thickness switch in up...
