I feel that the 6v6 is THE KEY attribute for getting it cooking at reasonable volumes removing that dark blanket-ness, muddi-ness, and farti-ness. Even if half power doesn't cut it, with 6v6 i am still around 40watts which is PLENTY at any venue! :) Just more headroom if I want a cleaner sound...

I use a fulltone clyde standard, and for a backup I use the Vox 848 Clyde Reissue. I love em both! They sound very similar side by side.

A. I would suspect a bad preamp tube maybe? Tap the glass with a pencil eraser and see if you can find the culprit. B. Check cables and see if you can recreate the "pop"... Instrument and speaker. C. Is it still under Warranty? Have a tech check it.
