Brand new Mark 5/35 - am I an idiot?

This is what is on Sweetwater's website: https://www.sweetwater.com/insync/variac-change-sound-of-old-tube-amp/#:~:text=The%20procedure%20is%20simple%20though,the%20output%20of%20a%20variac.&text=You%20can%20damage%20your%20amp,the%20life%20of%20your%20tubes.

    I don't love my Mark V

How did the band rehearsal work out?

    I don't love my Mark V

So you already started the tube rolling thing? Hope it works out for you. I see you have the EQ on on channels 1 and 2? Do you use the sliders or the preset? Settings on the EQ sliders are in most cases optimised for channel 3.

    I don't love my Mark V

"- the "M" after the "G" is the channel volume I think? You must push some serious volume!" For me all of the Mark settings are EXTREMELY dark. I am going to try moving the amp into the living room today. The practice room has some serious sound deadening (which I didn't even think of until this...

    I don't love my Mark V

Thanks, I tried the 45W and increased channel volume and that seems to work. I don't want to run the FX loop too hot because otherwise the output pot becomes too touch sensitive for playing at low volume levels in the evening, and I have a Flashback in the loop that does not like an input signal...

    I don't love my Mark V

A few observations / questions on your settings: - the "M" after the "G" is the channel volume I think? You must push some serious volume! - gain up = bass down es especially for channel 3 ( and bass always down on channel 2 MK I). Your bass settings are really low on those channels. - you...

    I don't love my Mark V

Can you post your settings? With the right settings, channel 3 produces all but a wet blanket sound. Did you use the EQ sliders or the presets? The sliders are pretty powerful so personally I do not see why you would need an additional EQ in the loop. For what it' worth I will share my setting...

    Advice Regarding Mark V Problem

Happy that you resolved the issue quickly! Same thing happened to me after I bought a used mkV. Replacing the inner pair solved the issue, my amp came with 2 matched pairs of Mesa 6L6 tubes, but the 2 pairs were different from eachother. I replaced the pair by the type that was the standard at...

Upgrading from Mark V 25 to Mark V

What is the problem of having modes you do not use? On my mkV90 I never use the rectifier or triode/pentode switch. And for each of the channels I have modes I never use, nothing wrong with that. Recently I "discovered" the Variac mode which for me works great with Tweed or Crunch when playing...

Mark V 35 combo pedalboard question

Please provide a detailed description of tour current signal chain. Include what is between the guitar and the amp input and what you have in the FX loop. One thing you can already check is if your FX send level is not too hot. The signal level of the MKV FX loop is known to bee too hot for...

Whats the deal with EL34 class tubes in the V

EL34 has to run in Variac mode. I don't know avout KT77 tubes. The requirement for Variac was added in later revisions of the manual. You can run at the full 90 Watt.

Big Muff Russian reissue sounds horrible on Mk V - request settings advice

My starting point was information from the Gilmourish website, maybe a misinterpretation from my side. I might try a fuzz, till so far I do not like any dirt pedal on the MkV, except for the good old TS

Big Muff Russian reissue sounds horrible on Mk V - request settings advice

My post was inaccurate, I forgot to list the wah and compressor. Using the compressor helps a bit. Removing the Phaser or moving after the Muff does not make an improvement. The parked wah is an interesting option, I'll give that a try. Thanks!

Big Muff Russian reissue sounds horrible on Mk V - request settings advice

Last week I picked up playing again after a break (too busy with other stuff). I got inspired by the great tone of Dave Gilmour's solo tone on Comfortably Numb. Afterndoing some reading on the Gilmourish website I decided that I needed a Big Muff Russian reissue, despite knwowing that I do not...

I wish this was an easier choice...

The closed back widebody is a good choice! I use this instead of the built in speaker of the 90W combo. I only play at home, what I like about the speaker is the tight low end at low volume.

Settings for Recto sound on mkV:90 at bedroom levels

I guess this sums it up pretty well! Thanks anyway for everybody's input!

Settings for Recto sound on mkV:90 at bedroom levels

Hi, can you guys recommend settings to get close to a Dual rectifier on the mkV:90? I know the big mkV may be a bit overkill but I only play at bedroom levels. I like playing heavy stuff on channel 3, mk IV mode. Gain at 15:00, treble and presence around 11:00, mid and bass at 9:00 and EQ I'm...
