I think your are right with the idea of the eq in the loop (I run an mxr) and send the rec into a marshall cab for "that sound." While it is not the JCM 800 I had as a kid, it is pretty close. Add a boss sd-1 in thr front, and I am that much closer. Again, we are talking in the ballpark not a...
Nice sounds, sir! Wow, those two definitely in the same ballpark. Do I hear differences? Yes, but those are very slight.
I suppose having the two amps was redundant?
I miked my 5:25+ combo at gigs. Though never had the volume above 10 or 11. Never had to in rehearsal.
The 50 is not twice as loud as the 25 (that would be 250 watts!). Rather, it has more head room and gives a slightly wider dynamic field.
You are right about having three channels for live. Clean, crunch, burn would be a a sweet trifecta. I have resorted to pedals for gain options, which is not the end of the world.
So we as a community are more in favor of a speaker swap. Sounds like cannabis rex, greenback, century, c90, winterland and tone tubby are some winners for a less shrill high end while maintaining the flavor of the amp.
Hi folks,
I posted previously in search of a "how to" for 5:25 plus combo speaker change. I was kindly directed to a walkthrough but learned it was missing some steps. Maybe you guys knew what to expect but not me, as I am relatively new to Mesa amps.
The reason motivating this swap was that...
I think this amp sounds full and warm. I like the punch and shape of the sound the mesa cab provides. The drive channels come alive with a tubescreamer in front (no gain, push the volume), which is how I have run the bigger version. The clean channel does great with pedals and the head also...
Hi Mesa community. Does anyone have a wiki or walkthrough for changing the speaker in the 5:25+ combo? I have a greenback on the way, as the V30 is too piercing in this amp. Pardon me if this info exists here someplace, I must have failed to locate it. Thank you in advance.
